Parents Area : Introduction

Parents will always be made welcome.
We want your child to be happy at school, to enjoy his/her time here and to work to the best of their ability. To bring this about, home and school need to work together. They need to know and understand each other and build a close and trusting partnership.

Before it is time for a child to join the Reception Class, we will welcome all parents and their children into the school to meet the teachers of their classes and to enable them to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings. In addition, parents will be invited to an informal meeting where information will be passed on to them and where they can raise issues that may be of concern to them about their child beginning school.

Open Evenings are arranged twice a year (October / November; March/ April) when parents and teachers can meet to discuss progress and pass useful information to each other. Similar arrangements can be made at any time of year if either school or parent think it necessary.

If an issue is really worrying a child's parents, they should come immediately and see the Headteacher or, if the matter can wait a little, make an appointment. This will enable the school to set time aside to deal with the matter properly and in a relaxed way. Every effort will be made to meet requests from parents to visit at a particular time.

"The school's relationships with parents are good and make an important contribution to pupils' learning."
OFSTED 2000

In KS1 there will also be an open day session during the school year where parents can visit school and look at their child's work during the school day. This is not an opportunity for parents to discuss their child with the class teacher, who would of course be teaching the class! It is an opportunity though for parents to discuss with their own child, their school work with them and to find out what they enjoy and what they have made and done.

Some things parents can do to build up a sound relationship with the school;

  - get used to coming into the school and feeling at ease there. This does not mean always being on the school's doorstep, but it does mean never hesitating to come in if the need is felt.
  - never believe or take notice of rumours always ask the school direct.
  - support the school. Attend sports days, concerts, parent assemblies, fund raising events, Parents' Evenings, meetings etc. whenever you can.

The Governors hold an Annual Meeting for parents in the Autumn term, their report being circulated two weeks before the specified date.

The Friends of Green Lane School

The school welcomes every opportunity to work and meet with parents. "The Friends of Green Lane School" F.O.G.L provides a vital link in the forging of the partnership and enhances the line of communication between home and the school.

Your enthusiastic support for F.O.G.L will be much appreciated, who:

- Raise funds to provide educational resources
- Organise and/or participate in enjoyable social events
- Provide experiences and events which will enrich and enhance the lives of children
