Green Lane Primary School

 Year 4 - Mrs Bean's Class

This term we have been learning about rocks and soils as part of our science work. We have enjoyed working together in groups and carrying out simple experiments and investigations to find out the properties of different types of rocks. We have learned which rocks are hardwearing and which are impermeable. This has helped us to make informed decisions about why certain kinds of rocks are used in building.

The cold and snowy weather has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to write poems using figurative and expressive language to create images and atmosphere.

We have worked hard to choose words carefully so that they give maximum impact and help us to paint a picture. We have learned how to use alliteration, rhythm, similes and powerful nouns, adjectives and verbs.

In art, we learned how to use a palette of three colours to create a wintry sky background.
