Green Lane Triumphant in
Under 11 Mizuno Indoor Athletics Competition
Over the last 8 months children from Green Lane Primary School have been training for and competing in this competition. The competition involves a wide range of track and field events, including a number of distance relays and sprints. The team was made up of 13 girls and 13 boys from across Years 5 and 6.
The journey started in September 2008 when open trials were run throughout Years 5 and 6 in school. These proved so immensely popular that the trials extended to a whole week, with almost all children trying out at a variety of different events.
The initial competitions were local area qualifiers before progressing on to the East Leeds semi finals and finals. Green Lane dominated each of these competitions, which was not easy due to the fantastically high standard across the East of Leeds. The winners and runners up from this competition progressed on to the City Wide competition run at the John Charles Tennis Centre in South Leeds.
Green Lane qualified second from their semi final, which set up an extremely competitive Final consisting of teams from across the city including defending champions of the last three years Woodlesford Primary School and hot favourites Chapel Allerton.
The final was incredibly competitive and at half time there were only 5 points covering the top 4 teams. After the second half, with some very hard fought races it was Green Lane (133 points) that triumphed by 6 points from Chapel Allerton (127 points) with Woodlesford (126 points) in third.
